National Seminar on Vyakaranavinod

Shri Shankar Shikshayatan in collaboration with Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeeth, New Delhi, organised a day-long seminar on Pandit Madhusudan Ojha's work on Sanskrit grammer, Vyakaranavinod on March 22, 2024.

Vykaranavinod is a unique work on Sanskrit grammar. Ojhaji has presented intricate subjects of grammar in an interesting and easy manner. The book has six chapters.

The seminar had two sessions. The first session was chaired by Prof. Jayakant Sharma, Head of Department, Veda-vedanaga department, Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeeth. The speakers during the session included Prof. Satyapal Singh of Delhi University, Dr Dayal Singh Panwar and Prof. Ram Salahi Dwivedi of the Vidyapeeth. The chief guest was the Vidyapeeth Chancellor, Prof. Murli Manohar Pathak. Prof. Santosh Kumar Shukla of Jawaharlal Nehru University, graced the occasion with his opening remarks.

The second session was chaired by Prof. Omnath Vimali of Delhi University. The speakers included Prof. Rajdhar Mishra of Jagadguru Ramanandacharya Rajasthan Sanskrit University, Jaipur, Dr Abhimanyu of Kashi Hindu University, Varanasi, Dr Kuldeep Kumar of Himachal Pradesh Central University, Dharamshala and Dr Somveer of Delhi University

Prof. Dwivedi, in his speech, spoke about the importance and tradition of learning and writing on grammar and the contribution made by Vyakaranavinod towards keeping the tradition alive. Prof. Satyapal Singh focused on the chapter on namadhetu and cited several examples pointed out by Ojhaji. Dr Panwar spoke on the chapter on prakriya. He presented its importance, content form and examples to underline the importance of Ojahji's work.

Prof. Santosh Kumar Shukla said Ojhaji's book was useful for scholars and research students. Prof. Jayakant Sharma said it was important to study texts on Sanskrit grammar other than Panini's famous works on the subject. There are quite a few differences between Panini's grammar and Ojhaji's interpretation. Prof. Rajdhar Mishra said Ojhaji had kept in mind vedic and worldly aspects of Sanskrit grammer while writing the book. Dr Abhimanyu laid emphasis on the importance of Vyakaranavinod through several examples contained in the book.
